About me (Jonathan Boudin)

.

I feel like horses are in my blood and have been for most of my life. I have trained and competed in dressage, driven draft horses, and competed on my university polo team at Eastern Oregon University. I've  also ridden western a little bit, and I love to hit the trail.

In addition to The Little Red Riding Book, I've written for magazines and was a writer and editor on the Eastern Oregon University newspaper, The Voice. I also helped found the Kiara Care Society, an organization that allows those who have been touched by cancer to spend time with horses.

I was ten when I started riding. I leased a horse and took lessons. When my instructor suggested it was time for me to get my own horse, I could not agree more! All we had to do was convince my parents! They agreed that if I helped pay board, I could have my horse.  They never thought I would actually get a job, but the next day I was gainfully employed, cleaning stalls on the weekend. Soon I had my first horse, Amaretta. I learned so much from her, and a few years later I started to ride a horse named Percy, who eventually also became my horse. They became the main equine characters in The Little Red Riding Book.

Several years earlier, the beginnings of The Little Red Riding Book were taking place - when I was in the eighth grade. I made a pamphlet about horses for a class project, explainging how to groom, tack, and care for them. I glued it onto red construction paper and called it "The Little Red Riding Book". In college, I started to take writing more seriously, and decided to turn the little pamphlet into a book.

While I wrote the book, I also searched for an illustrator who would compliment the story. I found Marti Adrian, whose illustrations really bring the book alive.

My desire is to spread the joy of horses and to share the bond that exists between horse and human with The Little Red Riding Book. It's all about bringing the joy of horses to kids, and adults for that matter, and to keep kids reading and dreaming.

I live near Vancouver, British Columbia and actively ride and write. I am happy to say that I have some new stories that I am working on, and I can't wait for you to read them.

Thanks for reading,

Jonathan
